Thoughtful choices, without the greenwash
Sustainability is complicated, and we do not believe in pretending that making and shipping physical products has no impact.
What we can do is make considered choices around the products we use, how much we produce, the materials we select and the way orders are packed.
Made to order, not made in bulk
Most of our products are made or printed after an order is placed.
This allows us to keep finished stock to a minimum and helps reduce the risk of producing large quantities of designs that may never be sold.
Products are generally produced when they are ordered rather than sitting as large quantities of finished inventory.
We can test new designs without needing to manufacture large batches before knowing whether customers actually want them.
Every card, print, garment and accessory that we produce has already been ordered by a customer.
Better material choices where they make sense
We select blanks and materials based on quality, durability, decoration performance and the information available from our suppliers.
100% organic cotton
The Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0 T-shirts we use are made from 100% organic combed ring-spun cotton.
Stanley/Stella states that its organic cotton is certified and traceable through recognised textile standards.
100% recycled cotton
Our canvas totes are made from 100% recycled cotton rather than virgin cotton.
The 280gsm construction gives them a substantial feel and is designed for repeated everyday use.
100% organic cotton
Our tea towels are made from 100% organic cotton and are designed to be used as functional household products rather than purely decorative items.
We choose established blank manufacturers
We do not manufacture the base garments and accessories ourselves. Instead, we select products from established suppliers and then decorate or print them for our own collection.
Stanley/Stella uses certified organic and recycled materials across its collection and publishes information about sourcing, certifications, working conditions and environmental impact.
We use Nutshell blanks for selected accessories including recycled cotton totes and organic cotton tea towels.
Individual products carry their own material information and supplier-level accreditations.
Certifications shown by our blank suppliers relate to the products and supply chains covered by those suppliers.
We do not present the finished decorated product as independently certified by us unless that certification specifically covers our own production process.
Enough protection, without unnecessary bulk
Packaging has to protect your order first. We then try to keep it proportionate to the product being shipped.
A single card is not packed in the same way as an A3 print or a clothing order. We use packaging suited to the contents.
Prints and other flat products may use board-backed mailers to reduce the chance of bending or damage during delivery.
Our shipping labels are printed using direct thermal technology, so printing each label does not require an ink cartridge or ribbon.
We would rather be specific than sound perfect
No physical product is impact-free.
Printing uses ink and electricity. Garments and accessories need raw materials and manufacturing. Packaging is still packaging, and every parcel needs to be transported to its destination.
Our approach is therefore to make sensible choices where we can, avoid overproduction and be clear about what we actually know.
- How much finished stock we produce
- Which blanks and materials we choose
- Which print method suits each product
- How orders are packaged
- How clearly we communicate material information
- Raw material sourcing
- Textile manufacturing
- Supplier certifications
- Factory and supply-chain standards
- Published environmental impact data
Progress over perfection
We are a small business, and our approach will continue to develop as better materials, packaging and production options become available.
We will keep reviewing the products we use and making changes where they genuinely improve quality, durability or material impact.
